Simon逻辑让我写作从6.5跃升到7.5
雅思写作6.5深坑
很多英语底子不错的烤鸭都有过被写作单项卡在6.5的烦恼。最心酸的就是我们刷了好几次雅思,其他单项都可以轻松上7甚至8,唯独写作万年6.5。
我也看到很多Youtuber分享他们的考试体验,都有过类似经历,比如在Youtuber “Fastrack IELTS” 的一期分享中就提到,她去取成绩单的时候碰到了一位考生,来自美国的native speaker,为了移民所以要考雅思,但是这位考生的写作居然只有6.5分,最奇葩的是这位考生是有硕士学历,并且从事的是lawyer的工作……
我也曾陷入写作6.5的深坑,考过两次A类,写作都是6.5,在2018年12月份第一次考G类的时候写作也还是6.5!因为移民要考8777,当时就差写作不通过,拿到成绩单的一刻真的要气死lol
Simon逻辑带来希望曙光
于是在第二年的6月份我又报考了一个G类雅思,为了写作破7,每天就只啃写作,听力阅读口语全放一边了。但网上大部分讲解在我看来要么太花哨,要么都是重复一些我们已经知道的观点,【因为6.5这个阶段的考生,肯定是在task achievement,grammar, vocabulary方面都有比较高的水准,所以根本性的问题不在这些方面】
后来小伙伴推荐雅思前考官Simon的写作课程,讲的task2雅思大作文,决心尝试一番。最后拿到了写作7.5,我终于可以舒了一口气 ☺️

整个课程学下来,发现对于雅思大作文写作逻辑有了更清晰的理解,更关键的是,simon对于写作时在论点的架构以及论证的方法,真的让人有种恍然大悟的感觉。

而没有时间看课程的烤鸭,博主这里为您奉上最完整的课程笔记!笔记会比较长,大家不妨花点时间慢慢阅读。
我习惯边学习课程边做笔记,不仅把课程的重点都一一标注出来,同时会加上自己的消化总结,不仅附上了课程里面的例句,还归纳了其他满分范文的段落。于是学完整个课程后发现我做的笔记整理出来已经可以装订成一本小书了。
在后期备考的时候,我就是通过看这本笔记不断梳理强化自己的写作逻辑。发现很有帮助。
下面就为大家分享一下我的部分笔记,笔记内容是我个人基于simon写作逻辑的理解整理的,欢迎大家提出讨论!
【划重点】考生们普遍认为雅思大作文写作的关键是有好的观点或者高级词汇句式,但学了Simon课程之后,我认为其实写作要突破6.5瓶颈根本在于逻辑,逻辑把握对了,好的素材观点和词汇才是如虎添翼。
04大作文40分钟时间如何分配?
1. Planning (10 min) 打草稿,梳理每个段落写什么内容
写作当然是要打草稿的,但是以前我从来不知道草稿规范的重要性,我把打草稿的时间都浪费在了思考开头的两句话里面,导致后面只能边写正文边想观点,这样非常不利于思路的梳理。尤其是没有打好草稿的情况下,写的过程中还得重新擦掉再想一个新的观点,这样往往造成了写作不够时间的问题。
2. Introduction (5 min) 开头段
开头和结尾都不是关键,所以没有必要非常惊艳。后面会具体总结如何开头。
3. Two main paragraphs (20 min ) 两个主体段
Simon推荐大家写四段式,中间两个主体段是全文的关键,是用来论述观点的,所谓的精彩句式,漂亮词汇都应该在这两段里面集中体现。
每个主体段花10分钟,5个句子,100个字左右。
综合下来,20分钟写主体段,200个字左右。
4. Conclusion (5min) 结尾段
结尾其实和开头比较相似,都不是全文的关键,所以为节省时间完全可以paraphrase开头的句子。
5.大作文四种题型
1. Discussion
例题 Some people think that a sense of competition in children should be encouraged. Others believe that children who are taught to co-operate rather than compete become more useful adults. Discuss both these views and *give your own opinion.
2. Opinion
例题 the money spent by governments on space programs would be better spent on vital public services such as schools and hospitals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
3. Problem + Solution
例题 In many countries schools have severe problems with student behavior. What do you think are the causes of this? What solutions can you suggest?
4. Two-part Questions
例题 News editors decide what to broadcast on television and what to print in newspapers. What factors do you think influence these decisions? Do we become used to bad news, and would it be better if more good news was reported?
6. 如何写开头段
按照Simon的观点,开头段不需要花很多时间去写作,两句话表达出写作主题以及观点即可。

我为此还总结了四种题型的开头怎么写。例如,
Discussion 题型 (discuss both views and give your own opinion)
People have different views about the effectiveness of group study as opposed to working alone. While there are some benefits to study independently, I believe that group work is usually more productive.
People have different views about ….as opposed to… 往往可以用于Discussion 题型的开头。
7.如何写主体段
按照Simon的观点,主体段的论述有两种写法。每种写法都是一个段落分5个句子来写。
通过接下来的一道写作题目,我们来看看两种论述如何展开。
Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programs. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
列举观点
第一种是列举观点的类型,这种写法适用于对一个问题/现象有很多种观点的情况(比如让你讨论这个现象的好处以及坏处,讨论这个问题的原因以及解决办法) (suitable for more than one idea—advantages/ disadvantages/ problems/ solution)

2. Firstly (5. Explain more, or add an example next to the first point)

Simon的写作例文
There are several reasons why I would argue against having compulsory community service for secondary school students. Firstly, the school curriculum is already full of important academic subjects, such as maths, science and languages. For example, I remember having an extremely busy timetable when I was in high school, and it would not have been possible to add to it. Secondly, students’ performance in other subjects would be affected if valuable study time were taken by charity work or neighborhood improvement schemes. Finally, I believe that teenage students would be reluctant to take part in any program of obligatory work, and this could lead to poor motivation and even bad behavior.
深入挖掘一个观点
第二种是深入挖掘一个观点的类型,这种写法适用于对一个问题或现象只有一个主观点的情况,但是可以通过不断挖掘背后深层次的原因使该观点得到丰满。

Simon的写作例文
On the other hand, the opportunity to do voluntary community service could be extremely positive for high school students. By making these programs optional, schools would ensure that only motivated students took part. These young people would gain valuable working experience in an adult working environment, which could help them build their self-confidence and enhance their skills. Having such experience and skills on their CVs could greatly improve school leavers’ career prospects. For example, a period of voluntary work experience might impress a university admissions officer or a future employer.
【博主心得】以前在主体段论证的时候只会用第一种,不断叠加观点的论述方式,但后来发现,第二种方法更利于充分论述,也更能够在这过程中爆出精彩观点和加分句式。
8.如何写结尾段
和开头段一样,结尾段不需要花很多时间去写作,其实就是开头段的一个*paraphrase,*
【划重点】要注意的是结尾段不要出现前文没有的任何新的观点。如果题目中问了你的观点是什么,应该在一开头以及全文贯彻自己的观点,而不是到最后结尾段才提出自己的观点。
Never write anything new (don’t wait to write your opinion until conclusion; if you are asked to state your opinion, it should be clear throughout the essay)
我看到这里就觉得恍然大悟,因为之前每次我都是在最后结尾段才亮出自己的观点。但这个在simon 看来是大忌!
为此,我也总结出了四种题型的开头和结尾,大家可以揣摩下结尾和开头相互对应的关系。
例如以下的opinion题型
开头: Some people believe that parents of children who attend private schools should not need to contribute to state schools through taxes. Personally, I completely disagree with this view.
结尾: In conclusion, I do not believe that any financial concessions should be made for people who choose private education.
9.结合具体写作题目练习
掌握了整个课程的精髓,我们离7分还差一步,那就是针对具体的写作题目练习,因为只有自己亲自练习过整篇文章的写作,才能真正体会整个写作过程的work flow, 才会知道在实际写作过程中会遇到什么bug,以及怎么用simon的方法去消除这些bug。
举个具体的例子
题目the money spent by governments on space programs would be better spent on vital public services such as schools and hospitals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
开头 Governments in some countries spend large sums of money on space exploration projects. I strongly believe that these programs are a waste of money and governments should allocate funds on public services.
中间段一:explain why space spending should be stopped
中间段二:explain why public service spending is better
结论 In conclusion, my view is that governments should spend money on services that benefit all members of society, and it is wrong to waste resources on projects that do not improve our everyday lives.
【博主总结】可以看出,因为在开头段就明确了我的观点是认为space program是浪费钱,政府不应该花钱在上面,所以全文的写作都是单边论,都是围绕为什么我认为space program是不好的,而没有对立观点的讨论 (space program 的好处)。如果有对立观点的讨论,就变成discussion essay, 这样写作逻辑就乱了。
结语
由于篇幅限制,博主只能分享以上部分笔记,还有很多笔记未能在这里分享,比如Opinion题型下,如果我想写双边论,开头和中间段又该怎么写?
博主认为,雅思大作文写作正是因为题型复杂,话题广泛,再加上篇幅时间的限制(40分钟内要把一个议论文写清楚),所以考官在评分的时候有特定的criteria。而如果我们不能吃透这些criteria,就会觉得事倍功半,使了那么大的劲儿怎么还是冲不上7。

我也接触了simon的写作课,有个顾虑是虽然内容多变,但是小作文和大作文的固定行文长度以及模式,会不会被认为是套模板,一眼认出师承simon,从而造成不良影响。
感谢提问,非常好的问题!我会建议采用Simon建议的framework以及逻辑思路 – 比如在开头就要陈述自己的观点,如果表明是strongly agree 还是completely disagree (你不一定要用固定这些字眼,你可以有很多其他的表达去替换到这些模版式的字眼), 然后在主体的两个段落必须只能单边论,这样逻辑才是一致的;还有Simon提出的在主体段中不断挖掘Why的论证方式也可以采用。Simon的课程中,为了课堂内容的诠释和照顾到更多的学生受众,使用的例句是比较单一模版化的,但是我一般会摒弃掉模版化的句子,忽略掉固定行文长度,把重点放在提升词汇能力上面。总体来说,Simon的课程让你的写作框架更加清晰,逻辑更加紧密,帮助你更好地传达观点,但是你需要融入个人观点和灵活的表达方式(这点通过看高分范文可以得到很好的启发)。
